We are excited to announce that we have been shortlisted as a finalist in a national "Dance School of the Year" competition for 2016. The contest, run by Anne Walker CBE seeks out entries from dance schools nationwide who can prove that they bring something unique to their area, that they work to professional standards and offer a good range of classes and opportunities to their dancers. I am overwhelmed that we have been recognised amonst so many great schools up and down the country.
Now in its 4 th year, the Dance School of the Year Awards was founded by Anne Walker MBE to celebrate the achievements of theatre dance schools who so often do not receive the recognition they deserve.
From the thousands of dance schools eligible to enter, entries were received from schools of all sizes across the UK and Europe.
First round judge was Jonathan Gray who is editor of the magazine Dancing Times. The finalist judges were Angela Rippon OBE and Liz Dale who is head of education and training at the Council for Dance Education and Training (CDET)
The winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony which will be held at a glamorous black-tie event at the Mercure Southgate Hotel in Exeter next month. Guest of honour is the broadcaster, writer and life-long dance supporter Angela Rippon OBE who is patron of a number of dance associations and was Chairman of English National Ballet.
As well as winners in each category there is an Overall Winner who will be crowned Dance School of the Year 2016. Anne Walker MBE says: “I feel strongly that the dance teaching profession is not widely recognized for the incredible work most dance teachers perform over and above simply “teaching children to dance”. Dance schools play a really fundamental role in society as they offer boys as well as girls a lifelong interest, as well as teaching them discipline, self-expression, musicality, team-working, co- ordination and many other skills. I wanted to give dance teachers and their schools the recognition so many of them deserve and I am delighted that these Awards are growing in popularity each year.”
