Dancers from Kelso, Duns and Melrose all performed to
gether on an international stage in Glasgow last weekend. Hip hop dancers from M-Pulsive Dance School based in Kelso qualified for the international dance competition last year and were delighted to perform at the Clyde Auditorium last weekend.
The teams have fundraised for this trip for the past 6 months, each of the dancers and their families would like to thank all our sponsors for their support through donations.
Dance School Principal , Michelle Douglas said that both the competition squads have worked incredibly hard over the past year and showcased their work exceptionally well. Although we did not reach the finals the opportunity to dance on a world class stage, to experience such amazing performances and take part in some very technical and great fun workshops has inspired and motivated all of us for the year ahead.
UDO (United Dance Organisation) is a highly prestigious dance organisation attracting competitors from countries as far away as Japan and Australia, so M-Pulsive were honoured to be representing the East Of Scotland .
The dancers returned from Glasgow on the Saturday and then came together again with over a hundred of their fellow team mates to perform at the Massed Pipe Band and Family Fun Day at Floors Castle. It was watched by friends, family and lots of spectators new to the hip hop genre. The team spirit and dance combination shown by all the dancers and the smiles on their faces lifted the hearts of many.
The dance represented 1940's War Time Britain, we see young soldiers go of merrily to war and in contrast depict the air raids and the strength and unity of a country at war. Following an upbeat soldier inspired hip hop piece, we slow down to show the pain of war and the heartache of the military wives back home, both then and now. There followed another rousing soldier style number before coming band up to date with a tribute to our current armed forces as well as our police and emergency services who to fight to keep our country strong and safe against terrorism.
